Hands down best sushi place I've ever been to. The fact that it's in a gas station is both ironic and hilarious. I'm so happy that this is less than 10 minutes from my house. I ate until I was uncomfortably full! Note: Best ginger salad dressing and freshest fish I've ever had - and reasonable prices!

Bird and his crew are amazing!!! The location is nestled on the Apex/HollySprings are off Hwy 55. It’s very intimate and tranquil inside. I love sitting at the sushi bar and watching the art happen live. Great food, excellent sake, and incredible atmosphere. Would recommend for lunch, dinner, or in-between.

Hands down the best sushi place in the state. Highest quality fresh fish around, a whole different league from any other place. Great place with some real spirit, the owner is an absolute delight. I cannot overstate how wonderful this sushi bar is. An absolute must try location, nothing compares.

This Subway turned Sushi chic is truly a hidden gem. I’ve now been here in several times and can say they are consistently amazing. The owner, Bird is personable and super friendly. His staff makes sure you’re well taken care of and their service is fantastic. The decor in here is done well even with it being built into a gas station. Wanna know how good the 🍣🍱 is? The regulars that come here have a special shelf and casing where their personal chop sticks are kept. 🤯 The fish is as good and as fresh as any high end sushi spot in the area. The rolls are works of art and you can tell all the ingredients in each one were well thought out to compliment one another and the final flavor of the roll. I’m excited to try the Omakase dinner they have. If you haven’t tried Gas Station Sushi, there’s no time like the present.

I do like sushi but I’m not terribly sophisticated about it. Ok, I’m a simpleton. I love rolls. I read a story about how this place started and knew I had to try it. Gas station sushi. I’m in. I got the VooDoo roll and the Dragon roll. Both tasty and huge. Our table also ordered the Ocean Delight. 🤯 It was mind blowing. Great flavors and original. Never had anything like it. Please try this place. Everyone here is so friendly.

First timers and we cannot wait to go back! Arrived at 5 and were seated immediately. Very friendly and helpful waitstaff. Wait time for food was perfect. Decor was very nice, though hope someday they move to larger environs. Music was appropriate for a sushi restaurant and glad they weren’t playing top 40 type music. Shrimp shumai and miso soup were excellent renditions. South Beach roll is a must. The premier sashimi plate was top notch and worth every penny. This is the place to go….M Sushi is good but Akami is better. Love it!

Truly a hole in the wall best of the bests. While thier starter name was not this, they have embraced it as the locals now call it. Gas Station Sushi is amazing. Well at least this Gas Staion Sushi. For sure no worries on questionable food selection here. Great service and food. If you want a guaranteed seat, better get there at 5 when they open.

I recently visited Akami in Apex, a sushi establishment nestled within a gas station. Despite the eyebrow-raising setting, I ventured forth to explore their offerings. My husband's reaction, upon learning of my plan, was a mix of concern and amusement – conjuring images of packaged gas station sushi. Nonetheless, I persisted. This marked my second visit to Akami, drawn back by memories of their premium Chirashi from the first time. Perhaps it was hunger or the abundance of fish that lured me in again. My order consisted of several nigiris (Otoro, Tamago, Conch), sashimi moriwase, and a Phat Roll. The restaurant's generosity with both rice and fish was evident, yet the overall experience left me underwhelmed. The nigiri suffered from imbalanced rice-to-fish ratio and lacked the essential vinegar touch for their sushi rice. Unfortunately, the Otoro's presentation was subpar and the Conch fell short in terms of freshness. However, there was a bright spot – their wasabi soy dressing carried a memorable kick. I was intrigued enough to inquire about purchasing it, but my hopes were dashed as they don't sell it. On a practical note, parking proved to be a hassle with a mere handful of spots available. Despite the acclaim, I'm left wondering about the basis for the stellar reviews. Akami might resonate with those prioritizing quantity, but for someone who values the nuances of quality, it's not the right fit.
